Tweed Heads & Coolangatta RSL Sub-Branch Inc, located on Level 2 (Podium) at The Sebel Twin Towns Resort, offers a range of support services to the local veteran community. The Sub-branch office opens Monday to Friday from 9am – 12pm.
Mates helping Mates
Ex-service personnel and widowed spouses can receive advice and assistance with applications for government financial support and/or pensions (initial applications, upgrades or appeals). This service is provided by trained advocates (professional and volunteer) and support staff and usually requires an appointment. Importantly, being a member of this Sub-Branch is not a prerequisite for such service.
A large group of trained volunteers also regularly visits local hospitals and nursing homes, offering support to ex-service personnel and their spouses.
As a result of recent military engagements, there is a growing need for support for the younger generation of veterans. This recognises their special needs for support and camaraderie within their own age group with programs such as surfing etc.
The Sub-Branch supports these young veterans to develop programs to meet their physical and emotional needs. These are in addition to traditional social events long enjoyed by our members.
Members of the Sub-Branch will also provide the RSL Service at funerals of any ex-service personnel, not just our members. This is typically arranged through the funeral director.
The Sub-Branch also organises public commemorative services for events such as ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day.
During office hours, members can drop into our ANZAC Room where they can get together, read books, use the free internet service etc, particularly on ‘Drop in Thursdays’ . The ANZAC Room also has a large catalogued collection of military books. This is a reference collection which can only be read on-site. Periodically, there are displays of military memorabilia.
The Sub-Branch is always open to the needs of our veteran community, and we encourage veterans to join us.
